But are we ignoring design’s most potent weapon for creating unique and compelling products, spaces, fashions and communications? Is it time to reconsider the case for beauty? This seminar, organized by Ontario’s Design Industry Advisory Committee, brought together an all-star, cross-disciplinary group of experts to explore the economic impact of beautiful design and its defining role in 21st-century innovation.

Arlene Gould, MBA, RGD, is strategic director of the Design Industry Advisory Committee, in Toronto.David Dixon, principal of David Dixon Fashion, is a leader in Canadian women’s fashion design.Siamak Hariri is principal with Hariri Pontirini Architects, in Toronto. Janet Rosenberg is founding principal of Janet Rosenberg + Associates, one of Canada’s most distinguished landscape architecture and urban design firms. Glenn Pushelberg founded the internationally celebrated interior design firm Yabu Pushelberg, with partner George Yabu, in 1980. Paul Rowan is co-founder and vice-president of Umbra, in Toronto.
