Demolish or Rebuild: Repurposing with Purpose with the Scarborough RT – October 15, 5:30 PM

Date: Wednesday, October 15, 2025

Time: 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Location: IA2150 Sam Ibrahim Building (Second Floor), University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC)

The decommissioning of the Scarborough Rapid Transit presents a unique, once-in-a-generation opportunity. Rather than spending millions to dismantle and demolish the infrastructure, we have the chance to transform it into a community asset that supports inclusive economies, sustainable mobility, local arts and culture, and healthy recreational spaces. We are bringing together community members, students, local leaders, and experts to spark this essential conversation.

This event will spark conversation on potential futures along 5 key themes:

  • transportation

  • local economic development

  • arts and culture

  • public health and recreation

  • creating an iconic destination.

The Design Industry Advisory Commitee (DIAC) will also be presenting the report produced from a January 2025 design charrette at UTSC, where about 80 Scarborough community leaders and residents spent a full day discussing ideas for the future of the SRT. Additionally, a representative from the City of Toronto will share updates and next steps from a City Hall perspective.

Please RSVP by scanning the QR code on this poster or visiting the Eventbrite page. For more information about the "Repurposing with Purpose" project, please visit our website. We hope you can join this important discussion about shaping the future of the SRT.

Best wishes,

The Institute for Inclusive Economies and Sustainable Livelihoods Team
