The Design Industry Advisory Committee (DIAC), in partnership with Bulthaup Toronto, presents The Frankfurt Kitchen & Bulthaup: Images of Innovation, an exhibition celebrating one of the most influential designs of the twentieth century and its enduring impact on contemporary kitchen design.
Through archival images, historical materials, and contemporary perspectives, the exhibition traces the evolution of the Frankfurt Kitchen—from Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky's pioneering 1926 design for Frankfurt's social housing program to its lasting influence on modern kitchen design. The exhibition also explores the philosophical connection through Otl Aicher's vision of the kitchen as the centre of everyday life and Bulthaup's continued commitment to craftsmanship, functionality, and architectural design.
The opening reception will include reflections from architect John Ota, author of The Kitchen: A Journey Through History in Search of the Perfect Design.
Presented in celebration of 20 years of Bulthaup in Toronto, the exhibition invites visitors to discover how the Frankfurt Kitchen continues to inspire innovation and demonstrate the enduring impact of design on everyday life.
This event is part of the Design Industry Advisory Committee's (DIAC) 25th anniversary celebration. Founded in 2001, DIAC is a not-for-profit design think tank dedicated to demonstrating the impact and value of interdisciplinary design.
